Bloom Scope of Our Work

Originally built in 1948, O’Kelly Hall underwent significant expansions in 1953 and again in the early 1960s. Initially designed to house the University of North Dakota’s (UND) Medical Research Facility, School of Medicine, the building served this purpose until the School of Medicine relocated to the former St. Michael’s Hospital in the mid-1970s.

Bloom partnered with the University of North Dakota to revitalize underutilized areas within O’Kelly Hall, transforming them into dynamic student success spaces. The outdated library stacks were removed to make way for a new two-story student collaboration area, introducing natural light into the heart of the building and enhancing the central circulation core.

The design introduces a diverse range of collaborative and study environments that support effective student interaction and learning. These renovated spaces play a vital role in advancing UND’s commitment to academic success. Key features include a range of study and collaboration zones, writable walls and mobile glass boards, ample natural light, integrated high-performance technology, and flexible seating and adaptable student spaces.
