Bloom Companies is seeking a Drainage / Water Resources Engineer to join our Illinois Transportation team.  We are looking for a highly motivated, technically capable engineer that can develop relationships and eventually build their own team of dedicated stormwater professionals. Candidates will lead drainage studies, stormwater design, and plan production teams to successfully deliver state-wide transportation infrastructure projects.  Candidates should have experience working on transportation projects in Illinois, preferably for IDOT and the Illinois Tollway, with direct involvement in stormwater components such as storm sewer, detention/retention basins, culverts, roadside ditches, and stormwater quality best management practices (BMPs).

Job Description Details

  • Lead a team of engineers and drafters
  • Interact and coordinate effectively with team members, subconsultants, clients, and other outside agencies
  • Assist in the development of junior staff
  • Prepare design calculations and technical reports for drainage studies
  • Develop plans, profiles, specifications, and estimates for transportation and other water resources projects
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals and contracts
  • Participate in quality control/quality assurance
  • Develop client relationships

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within six (6) months
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred but not required
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in drainage studies and water resources design for transportation infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois Tollway policies, standards and procedures
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Bentley products (Microstation/GEOPAK/ORD, ProjectWise, StormCAD), Bluebeam Revu, and Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling
  • Ability to work independently and take the initiative to perform tasks
  • Good decision-making skills, flexibility, focus on quality, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
